Job description

Cartrack has separate legal functions for HR (Labour Relations), Secretarial Services, and Debt Collection. This role does not have direct responsibility in these areas, but may be required to render support to the respective departments from time to time.

Primary Functions & Responsibilities:
• Drafting and reviewing of Service Level Agreements.
• Drafting of Non-disclosure and Confidentiality Agreements.
• Managing the day-to-day legal correspondence from sources such as customers, the Ombudsman, and law firms.
• Drafting of any legal documents and/or contracts that may be required from time to time, and with the required support depending on the complexity of the agreement.
• Administer all contracts (register, expiry dates, etc.).
• Report into the Group CEO for guidance and advice on legal matters, as well as operational reporting covering areas such as all major tasks and cases, along with regular feedback.
• Liaise with external law firms that may be appointed from time to time to conduct litigation.
• Provide advice and guidance to the CEO (Group and SA) on various legal correspondence.
• Interact with customers (telephonically and written) and any other parties that may be in dispute with Cartrack.
• Interact with the Head of Legal Collections.
• Interact and provide support to the Head of Operations on matters concerning Recovery Warranties and liability matters that could arise from time to time.
• Interact and provide support to the Company Secretary from time to time.
• Provide support to Department Heads as and when required.
• Assist with the implementation and enforcement of good corporate governance and regulatory compliance practices across all entities in accordance with current legislation, applicable regulatory requirements and accepted best practices
• Contribute daily to our mission of earning the reputation that we provide all our clients and partners with superior quality technology and information supported by first rate service.
• Identify legal risks throughout the Group, ensure effective and adequate controls through appropriate policies and monitor compliance. In conjunction with the Risk Management Team, assess legal risks and manage accordingly

Minimum requirements

• Grade 12 Senior Certificate
• University Degree in Law.
• Must display an aptitude for, and an interest in, drafting of contracts.
• Be able to work in an entrepreneurial environment that is fast-paced and at times with strict deadlines, and to be able to work very independently.
• Must be a competent team player and be able to interact at all levels within the organization.
• Must embrace and display Karooooo /Cartrack’s values, which include customer service excellence, accountability, and a results-driven approach and always with a sense of urgency.
• The individual must show maturity, sensibility, and competence in being able to deal independently with all parties interfacing into the position.
